Earlier this month, GreenRoad UK hosted a particularly informative User Group at The National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham. Attendees included representatives from some of the most progressive fleets in the UK, from bus and coach companies, such as First Group and Newport Transport to service fleets like Iron Mountain and Northern Gas Networks. Speakers included Adrian Walsh of RoadSafe and Driving for Better Business, who discussed work-related road safety and legislation to Mark Cartwright of the FTA/Van Excellence who advised the crowd on best practice for van operators. We also heard an inspiring case study from Gary Bell of Bunzl, who as well as obtaining an immediate ROI, stated that GreenRoad is changing the relationship between depot managers and their drivers. He quoted his colleague Mark Moore:
GreenRoad: Customer Spotlights
Premier Beverage Shows That Safe Driving Culture Starts at the Top
Do you have any doubt about the importance of executive support for a driver performance and safety programme? Consider this story that Premier Beverage safety director, Tracy Linhart, recently shared during a Food Logistics webinar about GreenRoad and the ROI of driver performance and safety management.
Premier Beverage has been a GreenRoad customer for almost two years. When the GreenRoad programme first kicked off, the company’s Safety Scores immediately improved going from a 64 to 25. (Safety Scores are like golf scores—the lower the better.) The Safety Score then hovered at that level for the next few months. Many companies would be satisfied with that score, but not Premier Beverage. Premier Beverage is passionate about safety and wanted to achieve even better performance.
Idling Case Study: East Yorkshire Motor Services Limited
EYMS is a privately owned local company and has been operating in East Yorkshire since 1926. They run 290 buses and coaches, provide employment for around 800 people and are committed to investing in new buses to make travel easier and more pleasant for their passengers. The company runs 9 depots servicing Kingston-upon-Hull, the East Riding of Yorkshire, the North Yorkshire Coast and the North Yorkshire Moors.
Having worked with GreenRoad since June 2010, EYMS introduced the additional Idling Performance Solution feature to their fleet in April 2011. The fuel consumption figures for the entire fleet were monitored for a period of 2 weeks prior to the launch of the idling performance solution and again post-launch. The additional improvements were swift and pleasing:
GreenRoad to the rescue!
A GreenRoad UK customer driver from a passenger transport company was recently summonsed to court for a Careless Driving/Failing to Stop/Failing to Report an accident offence. Several witnesses had seen a coach colliding with a parked vehicle but failed to take any details. Twenty minutes later they thought they saw the same coach driving past the end of the road. This time they did take details and passed them to the Police.
The driver claimed innocence throughout and soon his bosses came to GreenRoad for help on getting to the bottom of the case. It didn’t take us long to place the coach in question as being over 8 miles away in another town at the time of the collision. Although the coach did subsequently pass near where the accident occurred there was no evidence that it was ever at the scene. Additionally we were able to show that the driver was ‘green’ and hadn’t picked up a single event during his 5 trips that day – not your normal type of offender! Continue reading
