T-Mobile Expands GreenRoad Safety Center to Improve Road Safety and Reduce Fuel Consumption

LONDON, UK – September 17th, 2008 – GreenRoad Technologies, an innovative leader in driver safety technologies, today announced that T-Mobile, one of the UK’s largest mobile phone networks, has extended its deployment of GreenRoad Safety Center to an additional 250 vehicles in its company car fleet to improve driver safety and reduce fuel consumption.

T-Mobile, a GreenRoad client since 2006, has increased the safety of its drivers by nearly 50 percent. With 2007 savings of £421,000 in crash damages and more than £20,000 in fuel, T-Mobile’s return on investment from fewer accidents and reduced fuel consumption is outstanding.

By analysing each T-Mobile driver’s performance and continuously providing them with real-time coaching, GreenRoad Safety Center improves driving skills. Driver safety levels are displayed using a colour classification system: green indicates safe driving, amber needs attention and red is high risk. Feedback is also available in real-time using SMS, emails and Safety Center’s password protected website.

T-Mobile initially installed Safety Center in 228 vehicles at the end of 2006. As part of a five-year managed services contract with Ericsson, 200 of these drivers in T-Mobile field operations transferred to Ericsson and continue to use GreenRoad Safety Center.

T-Mobile’s audited Safety Center blind profiling period in 2007 resulted in

  • An increase in green drivers from 5 to 39 percent
  • A decrease of red drivers from 71 to 31 percent
  • An annual saving of 5,063 gallons of fuel
  • An annual reduction in CO2 emissions of 60,249kg.
  • A fifty percent reduction in the average fleet safety score

GreenRoad Safety Center’s in-vehicle sensor collects information on up to 120 different driving manoeuvres.  Each manoeuvre is evaluated in five categories: acceleration; braking, lane changing, cornering and speed handling.  Using proprietary algorithms, manoeuvres are analysed to give drivers continuous in-vehicle feedback about areas that require improvement, and build their driver profile. Driver safety levels are displayed using a colour classification system: green light indicates safe driving, yellow needs attention and red is high risk.

Feedback is also available in real-time using SMS, emails and Safety Center’s password protected website. Drivers and managers are able to review detailed reports by fleet, driver, department, manoeuvre type, trip, etc., to easily and accurately identify their high-risk drivers and problem areas.
