GreenRoad Safety Center being Deployed in 200 British Military Vehicles Including Cars, Buses and Ambulances To Help Reduce Accident Rates

LONDON, UK, – April 3rd, 2008 – GreenRoad Technologies, an innovative world leader in driver safety technologies, today announced that the UK’s Ministry of Defence ( is undertaking a comprehensive research study into driver behaviour across a sample of its organisation.  GreenRoad’s Safety Center will be installed in 200 vehicles across the UK for a six-month project starting in March 2008 to monitor and evaluate driving behaviour.

Safety Center will be installed in a broad cross-section of common user vehicles in the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force including cars, ambulances, minibuses and Land Rovers on its military bases.

“As part of our commitment to duty of care, we have an obligation for the safety of all MOD personnel – whether they are drivers or passengers,” said Major Shepherd, MOD Road Safety Officer. “We have partnered with GreenRoad because they have innovative technology that can potentially modify driver behaviour, where required.”

GreenRoad SafetyCenter rates driving skills without invading the driver’s privacy or tracking their location. An in-vehicle sensor collects information about 120 different driving manoeuvres. These are analysed to give the driver feedback about their driving and the areas that need improvement.

For the first three months of the study, Safety Center will collect ‘blind’ test information on approximately 2,000 MOD drivers. These figures will be used to analyse current driving behaviour and compare them across different parts of the organisation. For the final three months, GreenRoad will set up accounts for Transport Managers allowing them to provide regular feedback to drivers in their unit. Individual drivers will also see their driving ability on the red, yellow and green LEDs in the vehicle.

GreenRoad clients have reduced accidents by an average of 54 percent and lowered accident costs by an average of 65 percent—without invading driver privacy. By empowering drivers to manage their own safety, and understand how to drive more responsibly, GreenRoad can change driver behaviour behind the wheel.

“The MOD understands the challenges in Modifying driver behaviour to reduce accident rates” said Aidan Rowsome, vice president of GreenRoad EMEA.  “They are one of the pioneering organisations who are taking the steps to use technology to its full capabilities.”
