GreenRoad Wins Safety Award in the 2011 Van Fleet World Honours

By David Ripstein - CEO

London, UK. — May 12th, 2011 — GreenRoad, a leader in driver safety and fuel efficiency, today announced that it has won the Safety Award in the 2011 Van Fleet World Honours. The trophy was presented yesterday at a special ceremony held at the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall. This award follows GreenRoad’s previous success in the environment category at the Fleet World Awards 2008; winning the technology category in the 2009; and highly commended for the technology award in 2010.

Now in its twelfth year, Fleet World Honours has a pre-eminent reputation amongst the fleet industry for highlighting the top performing fleet manufacturers and service companies. Van Fleet World Editor, John Kendall, said: “Feedback to the driver is an important aspect of any driver monitoring system and a simple driver signalling system lets a driver know instantly how well he is driving. Is he accelerating gently or harshly? Is he braking gently or harshly? It’s not only a useful tool for reducing fuel consumption, but improving road safety, as drivers who adopt good economy driving techniques are likely to drive with greater awareness of their surroundings and are therefore better equipped to avoid potential accidents. Greenroad gives simple feedback to the driver enabling him to adapt his driving style accordingly.”

This award acknowledges GreenRoad’s positive impact on safety in the van sector, particularly service delivery vans. One recent customer signing, Iron Mountain, is deploying GreenRoad’s service across its entire fleet in the UK and Ireland following a pilot programme that delivered a 77% reduction in driver risk and 93% cut in crashes.

While using GreenRoad’s service over a ten-month period in 2010 the company submitted just three minor insurance claims. Iron Mountain drivers performed so well that GreenRoad created a new ultra-low risk category of blue drivers as a subset of its green drivers.

Another GreenRoad van client, Bunzl healthcare has seen its driver risk drop 63%; its crash rate reduced by 89%; and fuel consumption dropped by 6% since February 2010. With these figures Bunzl calculates a return on investment (ROI) of just three months. During the first three months of use Bunzl did not have a single accident.

Based on the stellar results in its healthcare division, GreenRoad is now being rolled out across Bunzl’s retail, catering supplies and Greenham divisions.

“This award rounds out another great 12 months for GreenRoad,” said Aidan Rowsome, general manager, Europe. “We have expanded our relationships with insurance partners such as Marsh and Zurich and this is resulting in a number of new clients in the van fleet sector, such as Bunzl. As fleet managers tighten their belts we offer a compelling solution to cut fuel, reduce wear and tear and manage insurance premiums, all while improving safety. It’s a win-win.”

GreenRoad provides the most effective, proactive approach to smarter and safer driving. Because driving decisions are responsible for 90% of all accidents and up to 33% of fuel spend, the only way to truly reduce risk and improve efficiency is by focusing on driver decision-making.

GreenRoad provides drivers and fleet managers with real-time feedback, online reporting, analysis and coaching on their abilities, manoeuvres and patterns. As a result, GreenRoad positively impacts both conscious and unconscious driving behaviour – the key to creating more fuel-efficient and safer drivers. A typical GreenRoad customer sees up to a 10% reduction in fuel-consumption and emissions as well as a 50% reduction on accident costs.
