LONDON, UK, February 9th 2010 – GreenRoad™, a global pioneer in improving driving behaviour, today announced that Sheffield Insulations, the UK’s leading distributor of Insulation Products, has deployed GreenRoad’s service across its fleet of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) at its Ruislip depot that covers from West London to Surrey and Oxfordshire. Sheffield Insulations has already benefited from a 24 percent reduction in accidents and a reduction in fuel consumption of 9.7 percent.
An active participant in the TfL Freight Operators Recognition Scheme (FORS) programme which is an industry-led membership scheme that aims to transform freight delivery in London, Sheffield Insulations first learned about the GreenRoad 360™ service from fellow members who had adopted the service through the FORS safer driving initiative.
GreenRoad 360™ enables fleets, insurers and consumers to improve and sustain safe and fuel-efficient driving behaviour. It fundamentally changes driving behaviour by continuously measuring driving skills, providing real-time in-vehicle driver coaching and offering detailed analysis and recommendations online.
Drivers are rated red, amber or green based on the number of risky driving manoeuvres behind the wheel. Most drivers on the Sheffield Insulations team started with an amber risk rating and nearly all of them have improved to become green drivers, which indicates that they are driving safely and fuel efficiently.
GreenRoad 360 went live at Sheffield Insulations in August 2009, and by November 2009 the company had achieved a 24 percent reduction in the number of accidents over the same period in 2008. Sheffield Insulations also realised a 9.7 percent reduction in fuel consumption.
“We could see that the value from using GreenRoad’s service would not only be in reducing fuel but also by reducing accidents. We could then potentially work with our insurance partner to reduce insurance premiums too,” said Ian Gray, logistics manager at Sheffield Insulations’ Ruislip depot. “We believe that launching a driver incentive programme alongside the GreenRoad service has contributed to sustaining safe and fuel-efficient driving. Every month we give financial rewards to those drivers who have improved most or driven best overall.”
“Driver welfare and education are important to Sheffield Insulations,” said Aidan Rowsome, general manager, GreenRoad Europe. “By adopting GreenRoad, the company has demonstrated its commitment to driver safety and the environment while reducing operational expenses. We are proud of our role in helping Sheffield Insulations make the roads safer and greener.”
Part of SIG Insulations, the insulation division of the international SIG group, Sheffield Insulations has embarked on a Department of Transport driver training programme and is aiming to complete the EU driver certification process by 2014.
Sheffield Insulations is a member of TfL FORS, an industry-led membership scheme that offers the GreenRoad service to freight operators in London to help them drive down costs and become safer and more environmentally aware.
Sheffield Insulations’ Ruislip Branch covers West London, South West London, North West London, Surrey, Berks, Bucks, Oxford and part of Hertfordshire.
