GreenRoad Selected from among 40 Vendors in Competitive TenderLONDON, UK, December 15, 2009 – GreenRoad, a global pioneer in improving driving behaviour, today announced that the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has signed a contract to use GreenRoad’s service in 4,578 vehicles for the next three years. MOD benefits will include reductions in road accidents and fatalities.
The signing of the contract follows a 2008 deployment in which MOD vehicles using GreenRoad’s automated driver coaching service realized a 31 percent reduction in the number of high-risk driving manoeuvres. The deployment encompassed nearly 1.9 million miles of driving in a variety of vehicles.
Ensuring road safety is a top priority across the UK– about 75 percent of work-related deaths happen on the road and a third of all collisions involve people who are driving for work, according to former UK Minister of Transport Jim Fitzpatrick.
MOD Driver Behaviour Study
The aim of the MOD’s study in 2008 was to gather evidence on driving behaviour across the army, navy, air force and MOD drivers and assess the risk of individual driver behaviour; identify any difference in risk between civilian and military drivers; and ultimately understand whether a vehicle service can improve driver behaviour.
From March 2008 to January 2009, driving behaviour was analyzed in fleet vehicles with a cumulative total mileage of nearly 1.9 million miles. In order to capture data from a wide range of both civilian and military drivers, the vehicles in the study included small and medium size cars, utility vehicles, minibuses, coaches and Land Rovers. During the study, GreenRoad analysed driver behaviour by fleet, base, individual vehicle and individual journey.
“This announcement follows our recent partnership with FirstGroup to deploy GreenRoad’s service across its fleet of 9,000 UK buses. Both First and now the MOD are trailblazers in the commercial and public sectors, respectively, and demonstrate that GreenRoad’s service not only saves lives but also makes environmental and business sense,” said Aidan Rowsome, general manager, GreenRoad EMEA.
GreenRoad provides a single, comprehensive telematics solution to both change driver behavior and manage fleet performance and efficiency. Its solution engages drivers directly for meaningful, lasting behavior change. At the same time, fleet tracking, mapping and reporting help fleets optimize their daily and strategic operations. To GreenRoad customers this means increased safety and customer satisfaction and reduced operating costs for a clear competitive advantage.
