REDWOOD CITY, CA – February 28, 2012 —
GreenRoad, the leader in driver performance and safety management, today announced a new customer relationship with Summit Ice, a mid-sized, regional ice manufacturing company based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Summit Ice operates a seasonal fleet of 15 refrigerated transport trucks, delivering pallets of bagged ice across northern Utah and into Wyoming. In 2011, Summit Ice selected the award-winning GreenRoad driver performance and safety management service to proactively manage driver safety, mitigate risk and maximize fuel performance.
Originally Summit Ice evaluated legacy GPS-based telematics solutions, but those were quickly deemed too limited and expensive for the needs of Summit Ice.
“Our goal was to think ahead. We wanted a solution that delivered more than just traditional GPS. We knew with today’s technology we could get more data to help us manage safety and mitigate risk,” commented Brian Washnock, president and owner of Summit Ice. “I want to be a good partner with my insurance company and show them that I’m doing everything possible to mitigate risk. I get all this with GreenRoad plus the GPS stored data so I can go back and see where my drivers have been. GreenRoad is definitely the most complete and price-competitive offering we looked at.”
“Our business is complicated by seasonality,” continued Washnock. “We need to maximize our revenues between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Fuel costs are one of my top three business expenses. GreenRoad helps me maximize my revenue during this short season while managing expenses.”
“We also had a big issue with idling; that’s a lot of fuel costs that add up quickly and impact the bottom line. With GreenRoad, for the first time, I can work with the drivers and the routes to minimize the impact of idling.”
This summer, Summit Ice will be using GreenRoad to put in place a performance and safety-based incentive program for drivers.
“Drivers are the face of our company. GreenRoad will give me and each of them the confidence factor to know they are doing their jobs diligently. GreenRoad helps my drivers understand that we are right there with them, every day,” continued Washnock. “It my responsibility to know my drivers and GreenRoad will give me the tools to do that. I’m super excited to see GreenRoad in action this summer and to see how it impacts my drivers’ performance.”
“In the day and age you can’t afford not to look at a solution like GreenRoad,” continued Washnock. “It’s a necessity to train employees, build a safety culture and show our insurance carrier that we are doing everything we can to manage safety.”
GreenRoad combines advanced in-vehicle driver performance technology with easy access, online data and reporting to immediately transform driving culture, delivering the best drivers on the road. GreenRoad returns a positive ROI within months by dramatically reducing crashes and providing significant fuel savings. Most GreenRoad customers experience a 50% crash reduction after six months of GreenRoad use, and average a 10% improvement in fuel economy which can go as high as 15% with GreenRoad’s active idling monitoring.
Summit Ice is a locally owned and operated ice manufacturing and distribution company headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.
